Two days after India were crowned World Champions, Sachin Tendulkar has rated MS Dhoni as the best captain he has played under during his 22-year cricket career.
"He [Dhoni] is the best captain I have played under," Tendulkar said in Mumbai. "He is very sharp and always alert. He reads the situation well and is open to sharing ideas. He always has discussions with bowlers, batsmen and senior players separately."
Tendulkar, who has played under six captains, including Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble, praised Dhoni's ability to maintain his composure whatever the match situation. "He is always calm and never shows his frustration. These are some of the human qualities which have made him such a good captain. He is a fantastic captain."
India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final in Mumbai after coming through the knockout stages with hard-fought wins over Australia and Pakistan and a patchy performance in the group matches. Tendulkar said that India had "peaked" when it mattered the most. "In the knockout stage we peaked at the right time; it was most important. We knew either the batting was clicking, or bowling, or fielding but everything was not clicking together, but [apart from] in the last three games. Everybody contributed, right from seniors to the juniors in the team. No one can guarantee results but efforts can be [guaranteed]."
After India's victory in the final, Dhoni had said the team had felt the pressure of expectations right through the tournament. Tendulkar said the key to handling that pressure lay in focussing on individual performances. "Pressure and expectation are always there, we were thinking that as individuals we should perform our best. We were not thinking that if a bowler fails, others will take wickets like that; we wanted to do our individual best and perform as a team.
"The responsibility is on all the team members equally. Like me, it was the dream of all the team members to get this World Cup."
Tendulkar said that while lifting the trophy was on the players' minds, the focus was on restricting Sri Lanka to a gettable target and "go through the process and finish the game". He said the pre-World Cup preparatory camp the team had in Bangalore also played a key role in the team's preparation.
Tendulkar paid tribute to the efforts of outgoing coach Gary Kirsten, saying that while he would like Kirsten to continue, he respected his decision to leave, and that the team would "miss" him.

Mahindra renames Logan as Verito, drops Renault badge

NEW DELHI: Just over a year after breaking up its joint venture with Renault, Mahindra & Mahindra today said it has renamed the 'Logan' sedan as 'Verito', thus completely dropping the French automaker's badge from the entry level sedan.

"We are delighted to announce that the Logan will now be called the Verito. It will sport the Mahindra badge and emblem," the company said in a statement.

It, however, did not specify whether there has been a change in the price of the sedan.

Currently the Logan, which is available in both petrol and diesel variants, is priced between Rs 4.67 lakh and Rs 6.47 lakh (ex-showroom) as per the company's website.

Last April, M&M and Renault had agreed to part ways from their joint venture -- Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd -- that was formed in 2005 to produce and sell the Logan in India as the car failed to meet expectations.

M&M had agreed to buy out Renault's 49 per cent stake in the JV for an undisclosed sum.

The French auto major, however, agreed to continue to support M&M and Logan through a licence agreement and supply key components, including the engine and transmission.

As per their understanding, M&M could use the Logan brand for 18 months after which it was to drop all the Renault badge from the product as well as dealerships.

M&M's statement today did not elaborate on whether the Renault brand has also been dropped from the Logan showrooms.

Yes Facebook Developers, There Will Be An f8 This Year

The Facebook Like button celebrated its 1st anniversary this week, on April 21st. It’s ubiquity makes it hard to believe that it was a little over a year ago when Mark Zuckerberg took the stage at the third annual f8 Developers Conference to announce the button, which is now integrated with around 2.5 million websites worldwide, with 10,000 new ones being added daily.
While the anniversary of the conference came and went with nary a peep from Facebook, judging by this “f8 partnerships” Facebook Group, there will be an f8 in 2011 (Facebook has confirmed). It’ll be interesting to watch that “f8 partnerships” page in the coming months, to see who, if anyone, gets added from outside the company.
Up until now the f8 scheduling has been somewhat erratic (missing 2009 entirely). There have been a total of three f8s so far, the first one happening on May 24th, 2007, the second happening on July 23rd, 2008 and the third one happening between April 21-22 in 2010. In the meantime Facebook has grown from 24 million active users to almost 700 million.
While the conference typically happens in the summer, Facebook has yet to confirm an actual date for 2011 saying only that it’ll keep me posted. Judging by this year’s latency in announcement time, it’s probable that it will be held in late summer, I’m guessing sometime between July and August.
As AllThingsD’s Liz Gannes reports, Twitter has elected to shelve its Chirp conference this year while Google is once again over achieving with a sold out i/o in May. If developer conferences were like college, Facebook would be like the brilliant student who turned in their work late, but turned it in beautifully.

Switched On: A legacy from the Flip side

Last week's Switched On discussed some of the challenges the Flip camcorder faced trying to grow in the marketplace, an effort abruptly scuttled by an indifferent Cisco. But while Kodak, Sony and others are now poised to fill the Flip void, no competitor exactly matched Flip's combination of simplicity and sharing. With point and shoot cameras, camcorders, traditional MP3 players and standalone GPS units in decline, the jury remains out on how long portable electronics can fight the smartphone, but Flip's success taught the industry some valuable lessons that may have relevance going forward.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v available tomorrow for €590, starting with Portugal

Some lucky Aussies might have been able to pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v ahead of the rest of the world, but it turns out the Portuguese will actually be taking this Honeycomb tablet home first, starting tomorrow. Originally known as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 but quickly superseded by a slimmer, impending model, said transitional device is now listed on Vodafone Portugal's website with a more delightful €589.90 ($860) price tag, along with a big red "available from April 26th" stamp. We dug through Vodafone's other European sites and the only country that also mentions this Tegra 2 slate is the Netherlands, though it only indicates a "week 17" launch -- in other words, any time between now and May 1st. If you're in Europe and don't mind this slightly out-of-date whopper, be sure to check back as we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for more details.

Dell's 10-inch Android and Windows tablets get names, specs, release dates

Well, well, what have we here? A pair of 10-inch Dell tablets, one running Windows 7 on those fancy new Oak Trail chips from Intel and the other pushing Android 3.0 with a Tegra T25. We already saw these devices leaked in February, but now we have some specs and release dates. The Wintel powered Latitude ST boasts a resolution of 1366 x 768, 2GB of RAM, up to a 128GB SSD, GPS, an accelerometer, both front- and rear-facing cameras, an 8-hour removable battery, and "1080p video output," which we assume means HDMI-out. The Android-flavored Streak Pro opts for a 1200 x 800 panel, but keeps the pair of cameras (and two mics) for video chats, while adding an unspecified mobile broadband radio and slathering Dell's Stage UI on top of Honeycomb (whether or not that's a good thing is purely a matter of taste). Pricing is still up in the air, but the leaked roadmap indicates the Streak Pro will land in June, followed by the Latitude XT3 convertible tablet in July, and the Latitude ST in October.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet leaks out with Honeycomb, IPS screen, optional stylus and keyboard folio

Remember the ultra-thin Lenovo ThinkPad X1 we detailed just a few hours ago? The document that dished those secrets also mentioned an "X Slate," which made us wonder if Lenovo's LePad was finally hitting the states... but This is my next seems to have stumbled across a grander piece of technology than that oft-delayed slate. According to a presumably leaked company presentation, Lenovo's planning to release an Android 3.0 tablet this July with a giant raft of specs -- a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 IPS capacitive multitouch panel, a Tegra 2 processor, up to 64GB of storage, front and rear cameras, a full-size USB 2.0 port, mini-HDMI out, a genuine SD card reader and up to 8 hours of purported battery life in a package about 14mm thick and weighing 1.6 pounds.

What's more, it will reportedly have an optional dual-digitizer with "true pen support" and an optional keyboard case, possibly aping ASUS's recent Slate and Transformer tablet input mechanisms by allowing for both simultaneously. There's also apparently plenty of software support for the business-minded, including IT integration as well as anti-theft and remote wipe options, and all this will apparently start at the competitive price of $499 -- assuming these documents are legitimate and still valid. You see, they look a little preliminary for a slate supposedly sampling in just a couple of months, and there are contradictions here and there, such as the mention of a 1080p display in one slide, and some watermarks from 2009 in others. Still, Lenovo, if you're indeed producing a tablet today, we're liking its proposed specs -- don't suppose we can get a Tegra T25 chip while you're at it? Nintendo confirms next Wii coming in 2012, will preview it at E3

Nintendo has just announced it plans to introduce a successor to its Wii console next year, a "playable model" of which will be shown off at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles coming up on June 7th. No details are available as to how the next Wii will improve on the first one, though we imagine Nintendo will be happy if it simply matches the success of its current-gen home entertainer -- the brief note publicizing the new roadmap also comes with a total of Wii sales accumulated between its launch in '06 and the end of last month: 86.01 million. That's said to be on a "consolidated shipment basis," so maybe Nintendo is mixing its definitions of sales and shipments the way Sony likes to, but it's a mighty big number either way. Bring on E3, we say!

Panasonic's Gyutto e-bike has room for two, actually even three

Okay, so the pic only shows one child seat on this new power-assisted bike from Panasonic, but the designers reckon you can fit another one on the back. It's called the Gyutto and it packs some nifty technology to make it safe for a trio. For a start, to prevent the bike toppling when you park up, the kickstand activates a lock on the handle bar, making the front wheel rigid. And to keep you travelling in the right direction up a steep hill, the 8Ah lithium-ion battery delivers some high-torque power assist, good for 36km on a single charge -- better than some others. Talking about steep, the price will work out at around $1,780 (including the two child seats) when the bike is released in Japan on May 23rd. The same money will get you a Mini version with smaller (20-inch) wheels. It's a lot to spend on a couple of ungrateful rugrats, but at least you won't have to pump those pedals so hard

India Bans Nokia E-mail Services

A REVIEW OF THE AMAZING X7 FROM NOKIA

he release of the X7 model from Nokia sees another Symbian handset join the brands ever growing range of handsets. This model benefits from some modern styling that gives it a real eye catching look, whilst the popular operating system it utilises has also been revamped and offers improvements over previous versions. It is unlikely that the APple iPhone 4 and the HTC Sensation are going to be quaking in their boots at the prospect of this release, but there are a legion of mid range smartphones that should be very worried indeed.
The modern smartphone has almost put the concept of styling low down in its list of priorities and thus it is refreshing to see a model like the X7 that obviously has had a lot of thought go into its design elements. Thus rather than the traditional black slab that we are presented with from many manufacturers, this model sports a design that varies from its competitors. Nokia have opted to angle the four corners of the handset rather than curve them which means the phone takes on an ultra modern and very stylish look. Thanks in part to the model incorporating an AMOLED screen, the overall depth is just 11.9mm which although does not fall into the wafer thin category, does make it one of the slimmer phones available. In fact this depth helps the phone feel thin but not at the expense of feeling well constructed, and indeed when it is in your hand it feels incredibly sturdy, a fact backed up by the weight of 146 grammes which keeps the phone from feeling cheap. An aluminium body maintains this feel of quality that runs through the handset.
The Noxia X7 offers users a large AMOLED display that is perfect for video playback and for gaming. In terms of resolution this is nicely in line with the rest of the phones specification, not jaw dropping but still high quality. At 360 x 640 pixels image quality is good whether you are reading text or viewing photographs, whilst the 16 million colours that the screen can display keeps results vivid and bursting with life. Nokia have opted to use a specially reinforced glass on this model that is named Gorilla glass. The material is much stronger than normal glass, not only meaning that the handset is less likely to be damaged if dropped but also helping to ensure the screen stays scratch free for as long as possible.
Nokia have produced yet another impressive model with the X7. The large screen will win many admirers as will the units stylish design. This model could prove the perfect phone upgrade or the ideal first smartphone, especially for the younger market thanks to excellent video playback and gaming facilities.

A little hack found on the forums on about how to access the net from a pc using a mobile with Airtel prepaid card. Enjoy!
Raw Materials: PC/Laptop and necessary connectivity tools ,ie.,
Serial/USB cable OR Infrared Device OR Bluetooth dongle to connect the mobile to the computer.
1) Activate Airtel Live! ( It’s FREE so no probs)
2)Create TWO Airtel GPRS data accounts (yep TWO) and select the
FIRST as the active profile.
3) Connect your mobile to the PC (or Laptop) and install the driver for
your mobile’s modem.
4) Create a new dial-up connection using the NEW CONNECTION
WIZARD as follows
Connecting Device : Your mobile’s modem
ISP Name : Airtel (or anything you like)
Phone Number : *99***2#
Username and Password : blank
5) Configure your browser and download manager to use the proxy
100.1.200.99 and port 8080.( My advice is to use Opera since you
can browse both wap and regular websites)
6) Connect to the dial-up account. You will be connected at 115.2
kbps (but remember, that is a bad joke).
7) Pick up your mobile and try to access any site. You will get “Access

Keep the mobile down.
8 ) On the PC ( or Laptop) open your browser, enter any address ,
press ENTER and…….WAIT
9) After a few seconds the page will start to load and you have the

ADVANCED CALL MANAGER

Bring back the joy of owning a phone!

Hundreds on your contact book and hundreds more who can access your number and call any time they find fit. Is there a way to make owning a phone less intrusive while staying connected with others?

No matter how advanced your phone is, when you receive a call you have just two options – answer or hang up. Advanced Call Manager (ACM) is the app that handles your phone calls just like you would, plus a helpful technology boost. You get more call-handling options (busy tone, busy tone and SMS auto-reply, mute the ringer, etc.) and can personalize your response to different callers. With ACM you can set lists of contacts, choose how to filter their calls, save your call-handling options into Profiles and let ACM run automatically without extra supervision.

Note: Some of ACM's features differ depending on the platform. Please, select your device (in the upper-right corner of the page) to visit ACM's page for your platform.

More efficient call-handling options you can assign to different contacts

ACM gives you five more ways to subtly escape calls without having to hang up:

  • Busy tone – send a busy tone to callers. Avoid acting rude by hanging up.
  • Busy tone and SMS – add a personal touch to sending a busy tone: inform your callers with pre-assigned SMS replies.
  • Mute the ringer – let the calls through with a muted ringer. More discrete, and keeps you undisturbed.
  • Divert calls – forward incoming calls when you are unavailable.
  • Play a personal greeting (Nokia devices only) – set your own answering machine and record the caller’s message straight onto your phone, avoiding having to call your operator to check voice messages.

Handle groups of contacts by creating lists

The easiest way to handle your calls is to divide callers into lists such as “Friends,” “Family,” “Work” and assign blocking rules for each. ACM gives you several handy list options:

  • Work with blacklists and whitelists – block or allow calls from people included in a list.
  • Import contacts from your phonebook – simplified list creation.
  • Individual settings allowed – personalize how ACM handles an individual caller included in a list (for example, send a specific SMS auto-reply to your mother while the default blocking action for list “Family” is to send busy tone).

Create and save different call-management profiles

Once you know what groups of people you would like to block and how, save your settings in ready-for-action profiles (configurations). You can choose from 5 different active modes for your profiles: reject all calls, accept calls only from your phonebook contacts, reject from blacklist, accept from whitelist or reject all plus a custom action for specific contacts.

Schedule changes of the active profile according to your lifestyle through Scheduler & Locator

Use ACM’s clever Scheduler to switch between profiles automatically. For example, activate your custom “Evening” profile every evening to block work-related calls after hours.

Use the Locator to switch the active profile according to your location. For example, set ACM to activate your “Work” profile when the Locator detects you are in your office building.

Unlimited SMS templates library

Write and save an unlimited number of SMS auto-replies for all occasions and have them always at hand.

With Advanced Call Manager you can focus on more joyful matters than avoiding unwanted calls!
