Chris Gayle throws blames over West Indies Cricket Board

West Indies News: Who is wrong, WICB or Gayle?

Chris Gayle claims that he wanted to play Pakistan series and actually had written-off plans for playing in IPL4. Whilst things turned at the wrong side and he was at the side of world which he never expected. While Board claims thatGayle made himself unavailable for Pakistan series

Gayle while talking to ESPNCricinfo said :
"It was to be international cricket for me. Had I been picked, that would have been what I would have done," Gayle said. "I didn't have any thoughts about IPL4. I had written off IPL4, rather I was looking forward to its next year. I should have been there (in the West Indies) playing with the national team, but I am here. It is unfortunate but that is how it is."
Gayle said that he would have never thought to play IPL4 this season because of the long tour of Pakistan in Caribbean. The sudden offer from Banglore which came after a party at 3:00 AM and Gayle had no other choice, Gayle yesterday in an important match showed his real presence in IPL 4 by slamming unbeatable century a 102 of 55 balls against his former team KKR.
Gayle was bothered badly after not getting picked up in IPL Auctions. He added "It was surprising to be honest when no one took up the bid but based on my knowledge, they said we (West Indies) have a window where we have international cricket at that particular time. So I guess that was the reason, unless there are other things that I don't know about."
Gayle also puts up all the blame towards West Indies Cricket Board communication gap "I was injured and no one bothered ... haven't I done enough (for the West Indies)? I have given my all and if that is not enough, what is? They left me to fend on my own and I have complaints."
While his communication between the players still goes through Blackberry and different social networks "I say hi to the guys now and then and wish them well."
Gayle is one of the three players who didn’t signed the official West Indies Cricket contract and plays a freelancer player for national team and other leagues worldwide he said "I had already pointed out my reasons (for not signing the contract). I thought the contract had too many restrictions and I explained to them (the board) and I explained to the public why I had not signed."
While talking on retirement of Lasith Malinga from Test Cricket, There were claims made by Srilankan fans that retiring from test cricket was more of a decision towards playing in IPL he said "Malinga and I are not in the same boat - so I don't know what's happening with Malinga." The issue of club versus country, he said, could be easily sorted in most cases through communication. "It's simple, they (boards) just have to work it out as much as possible with the individual and see how best we can all co-operate. At the end of the day everyone can be happy and then we can actually move on and we wouldn't have anything dramatic like this."
Gayle Concluded "You have a window for the IPL just like you have a World Cup window. I'm sure there wouldn't be any fuss. That's something they need to take seriously. I'm sure cricket can actually move ahead and everyone will be happy."

Possible iPhone 5 photos leaked

Blurry images of what could be Apple’s next version of the iPhone have been posted online that reveal subtle design changes to the device like a wider screen, curved back and thinner body.
If the pictures do prove to be genuine, it would be the world’s first glimpse of the iPhone 5.
The design shown in the leaked photo is consistent with earlier rumors about what to expect from the next iPhone, with the exception of the size of the home button. As previously stated, it does have a wider screen, possibly a curved back and a slimmer body, but those details aren’t nearly as pronounced as seen in the iPhone 5 mock-up that recently made it way around the net. The image also features the new proximity sensor shown in the soon-to-be-released white iPhone 4.
But, some remain skeptical that the alleged iPhone images are real, including M.I.C. Gadget, which posted them. The quality of the photos are admittedly not very good, and it wouldn’t take much effort for a graphic designer to manipulate.
But if it isn’t a photo-manipulation, then what is shown in the image is likely a prototype device and not an iPhone off of a production line. We reported earlier in the month that Apple has yet to send touchscreen panel makers a production roadmap, which suggests that iPhone 5 production won’t start until at least September.

Apple, Google called to U.S. Senate hearing on mobile privacy

As the controversy over persistent location tracking in the iPhone and Google Android devices continues to surge, representatives from Apple and Google have been summoned to a Senate judiciary hearing on mobile technology privacy in May.

Democratic Senator Al Franken, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, will hold the hearing, titled "Protecting Mobile Privacy: Your Smartphones, Tablets, Cell Phones and Your Privacy," on May 10.

In addition to representatives from Apple and Google, confirmed witnesses at the hearing include officials from the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission; Ashkan Soltani, independent privacy researcher and consultant; and Justin Brookman, Director of the Center for Democracy and Technology's Project on Consumer Privacy.

“Recent advances in mobile technology have allowed Americans to stay connected like never before and put an astonishing number of resources at our fingertips,” Franken said in a statement. “But the same technology that has given us smartphones, tablets, and cell phones has also allowed these devices to gather extremely sensitive information about users, including detailed records of their daily movements and location. This hearing is the first step in making certain that federal laws protecting consumers’ privacy—particularly when it comes to mobile devices—keep pace with advances in technology."

After security researchers revealed last week that Apple's iOS 4 operating system stores a detailed log of user's locations, Franken and other government officials sent concerned letters to Apple.

Last week, two customers filed a class-action lawsuit against Apple, seeking refunds for their iPhones. The plaintiffs claimed they would never have bought the devices if they had known of the location tracking.

A report from The Wall Street Journal on Monday further ignited the issue when it revealed that location tracking appears to continue on the iPhone even when location services are disabled on the device.

South Korea, France, Germany and Italy have all reportedly initiated investigations into the practice.

Microsoft slips: ‘Mango’ update will be Windows Phone 7.5

It looks as though Microsoft has accidentally confirmed that its next major Windows Phone update, dubbedMango, will bring the mobile operating system up to version number 7.5. The information comes courtesy of the Redmond company’s website, which prompts developers to “Preview the Next Windows Phone OS 7.5.” Mango is expected to launch in late-fall of this year and was originally thought to be Windows Phone 7.1. The update will bring with it true multitasking, Internet Explorer 9, and an integrated Twitter experience — among other things. Microsoft has yet to issue an official statement on how the operating system’s version number schema will progress.

Right Wing Slams Obama For Advocating Leadership Theory That Was Espoused By Nelson Mandela

The New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza has a lengthy piece out today exploring “how the Arab Spring remade Obama’s foreign policy.” The article outlines the President’s big foreign policy decisions throughout his young presidency — from the surge in Afghanistan and keeping a low profile during the Green Movement in Iran to participating in the UN mandated intervention in Libya — and ultimately ends with an interesting quote from one of Obama’s advisers:
Nonetheless, Obama may be moving toward something resembling a doctrine. One of his advisers described the President’s actions in Libya as “leading from behind.” That’s not a slogan designed for signs at the 2012 Democratic Convention, but it does accurately describe the balance that Obama now seems to be finding. It’s a different definition of leadership than America is known for, and it comes from two unspoken beliefs: that the relative power of the U.S. is declining, as rivals like China rise, and that the U.S. is reviled in many parts of the world. Pursuing our interests and spreading our ideals thus requires stealth and modesty as well as military strength. “It’s so at odds with the John Wayne expectation for what America is in the world,” the adviser said. “But it’s necessary for shepherding us through this phase.”
Predictably, the war hawks on the right picked up on this adviser’s “leading from behind” quote, and extrapolated something nefarious. War charging outfit Keep America Safe tweeted the quote and highlighted it on its website in mockery and AEI’s Danielle Pletka called it the article’s “best line.” And at Commentary, John Podhoretz claimed it damages Obama’s “chances for reelection” because it will be “thrown in his face.”
Why is the right all up in arms about this line? It’s unclear because they don’t say. Podhoretz never really says why this is bad, seemingly for him and the rest of his colleagues, perhaps it just sounds like subordination. But one of history’s most significant and important leaders thinks the idea is a good one, Nelson Mandela:
It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.”
Mandela biographer and Time Magazine’s Richard Stengel quoted Mandela expounding on this view:
“He said, ‘It’s interesting because there are lessons for leadership because the way you herd cattle is you lead them from behind. You find the most able and smartest cattle and have them lead the way. You empower them.’ He said that’s a good lesson for all of us. You basically have to kind of share the wealth. You have to find people who can execute your vision and ideas. I think that’s relevant not only in politics, but again even within families.”
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — who is also quoted in the Lizza article — appeared to confirm this sentiment in Obama’s decision making on Libya. “[F]or those who want to see the United States always acting unilaterally, it’s not satisfying,” she said, “for the world we’re trying to build, where we have a lot of responsible actors who are willing to step up and lead, it is exactly what we should be doing.”
Clinton is probably right. For those like Pletka, Podhoretz and the other neocons at Keep America Safe, acting with the international community, instead of acting unilaterally against or without it, is not particularly satisfying. But as the Libyan case illustrates, the United States can still lead, but that doesn’t necessarily mean its allies can’t stand ahead of the pack.

YouTube ready to start renting video on-demand movies from major studios?

According to entertainment website The Wrap, Google's YouTube has finally locked up all the studio deals to get itself fully into the online movie rental game. The report indicates it could launch as soon as this week with movies from majors including Sony, Warner and Universal, as well as smaller entities like Lionsgate, Kino Lorber and other independents. This doesn't appear to be a challenge to (now bigger than Comcast, but still smaller than HBO) Netflix, with the unnamed studio exec quoted in the article saying how happy they are to see a new entrant renting (and eventually selling) movies that's not using asubscription model. Apple currently leads the online VOD market after jumping in with iTunes back in2008, so obviously that's a main target but without the important info (pricing, picture quality and content) it's hard to tell how much of a challenger this is. VOD rumors have swirled around YouTube forquite some time and it rolled out $3.99 rentals of indie movies a little over a year ago, here's hoping they go the whole way and offer nothing less than 3D and 4K streaming to start.
